A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”
This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and based in heritage that bring people together. Annually, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
