Alexander Zverev Faces Auger-Aliassime in ATP Finals Clash

Introduction

The typical complications of round-robin tennis often result in by this stage of the ATP World Tour Finals we’re often left puzzled, hastily looking for a calculator and striving to determine the complex qualification scenarios. Yet tonight’s match between Zverev and Felix Auger-Aliassime, fortunately, is simple. It's a direct elimination: the winner sets up a final four matchup against Alcaraz at this championship finale; the unsuccessful competitor heads out.

Zverev is the predicted winner for this: the world No 3 is the more accomplished player, has previously won at this tournament on two prior occasions and holds the advantage in their personal record with six victories against three defeats, securing victories in both the games they've played on an indoor hard court.

Yet … this type of playing field on which Auger-Aliassime has claimed most of his championships, he’s riding a high after his remarkable turnaround against Ben Shelton on recently and he took out the German in the US Open early stage in late summer. Furthermore, conditions are faster in the host city than at Flushing Meadows, which is even more beneficial in Auger-Aliassime's benefit.

If the German player is reserved, similar to his performance against Sinner, and the Canadian presses the European player with his powerful serves and fearless play, it might very well be the North American athlete – the former prodigy who was earlier slated before the younger champions to replace the legendary trio – who obtains the dubious honour of facing the world No 1 on Saturday.

Action commences: at around 20:30 in the host city, 7.30pm GMT.
